Camari is a quechua word which means: "Pleasure" or "Gift".

It is the solidarity system commercialization of Fund Ecuadorian Populorum Progressio (FEPP), a social, nonprofit and ecumenical private foundation, sponsored by the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference which since 1970 supports the development of the popular sectors of the country through training, credit and technical assistance entity.  

The work of FEPP, led by Bishop Candido Rada,  is in response to the call of Pope Paul VI in his encyclical Populorum Progressio, to create a "common fund" for "assisting the most disadvantaged" in the perspective of a "common development of mankind".

Camari was born in 1981 by FEPP, to address issues of agricultural and handicraft marketing that afflicts small marginalized producers in the field and urban neighbourhoods of Ecuador.

Through its action, Camari benefits approximately 15,000 families of small producers, from organizations of second degree (OSG), grassroots organizations and producing individuals in 18 of the 22 provinces of the country of Ecuador.

Camari is part of World Fair Trade Organizations (WFTO).
